This work sought to evaluate the reproductive efficiency of prepubertal buffalo heifers at the end of the breeding season, after receiving a puberty induction protocol, followed by an IATF protocol, both based on P4 and E2. At the beginning of the puberty induction protocol, heifers received an intravaginal progesterone-releasing implant (P4) of 4th use. This implant remained in the animals for 10 days. 10 days after the beginning of the induction protocol, the implant was removed and animals that were acyclic were administered 0.5 mg of estradiol cypionate. The animals were divided into 3 experimental groups as to when to receive the puberty induction protocol: Induction group 45 - received the puberty induction protocol on Day -55, with the end of the induction protocol on Day -45 and the beginning of the protocol IATF on Day 0; the Induction12 group - received the puberty induction protocol on Day -22, with the end of the induction protocol on Day -12 and the beginning of the IATF protocol on Day 0; Control group - received no puberty induction protocol, only the IATF protocol beginning on Day 0. The animals in all groups were kept in the same management lot and started the IATF protocol at the same time (Day 0). After 15 days of artificial insemination at a fixed time, the animals were kept with bull in the proportion of 1/25. Thirty days after IATF, a pregnancy diagnosis was made using ultrasound, the pregnancy rate of the Induction group 45 was 42.2%, the Induction group 12 was 44.2% and the Control group obtained a pregnancy rate of 21.8 %. Animals that had not yet reached puberty, after the IATF protocol, managed to impregnate the breeding season with bull, and the induced heifers also tended to conceive earlier than the control group. It was concluded that the puberty induction protocols in prepubertal buffalo heifers increase the pregnancy after the IATF, and that the 12-day interval between the end of the induction and the beginning of the IATF protocol may be recommended, as it presents a similar P / AI than the 45-day interval, in addition to being shorter. The IATF protocol based on P4 / E2 is able to match the transfer rates with the bull at the end of the breeding season and anticipates the moment of conception.
