SUMMARY:

The reproduction of non-human primates in captivity is characterized by a low reproductive rate. Therefore, it is necessary to implement an efficient reproductive program, which involves a better knowledge of the management of these animals in captivity, according to the reproductive physiology of the species. In view of this, the present work aimed to describe the breeding stock and the reproductive management system of two species, Aotus azarae infulatus and Alouatta caraya, reared at the National Primate Center. Data from the “Aotus” mating system will be collected between the years 2016 and 2021, and then tabulated according to the formation of reproductive groups and the numbers of births and deaths in the first week of life will be described. The ages of females and males at first calving will also be described, in addition to the number of births over the years, separated by months. The data will be submitted to non-parametric tests according to their premises, such as the chi-square test or Fisher's test in the SAS computer program (free version: OnDemand). The significance level will be 0.05. As preliminary results, only data from the species Aotus azarae infulatus were analyzed, where the animals were categorized into infantile, juvenile, sub-adult and adult and the proportions between males and females did not differ. Females started their reproductive life at an average of 4.8 ±1.7 years and males at 8.2 ±3.9 years. The number of deaths in the first week was 25%, with the highest rate of deaths in 2018, 42.1%. The months of June, July, August and September had the highest concentration of births. The highest death rate was in 2020.
