INFLUENCE OF REPRODUCTIVE INDICES ON THE EFFICIENCY OF NELORE FEMALES RAISED IN THE AMAZON HUMID TROPIC
Beef cattle, reproductive management, reproductive performance
The analysis of reproductive indices in properties, containing animals belonging to production systems, mainly cutting, are considered of high importance in the issue of identifying several problems related to the reproductive management of these animals. Thus, the objective was to obtain and evaluate the zootechnical reproductive indices of different categories of Nellore females and to verify the influence of these indices on the reproductive efficiency of these animals. The study is based on a retrospective analysis using information obtained from breeding season spreadsheets carried out on a property in the year 2020, located in the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá. A total of 3474 females were counted with their reproductive data. Some criteria were adopted to improve the accuracy of the data, excluding information from the spreadsheet due to observed flaws. The females used in this study belong to three categories: heifers, primiparous and multiparous. Service rate indices, interval between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd AI, pregnancy by insemination, birth rate and pregnancy loss were obtained. The SAS GLIMMIX procedure was used with 5% significance. With the exclusion of data from the raw spreadsheet due to failures, information on 2525 females remained to be used. The results for the 2nd and 3rd AI service rates were 92.85% and 67.74%, respectively. For the pregnancy rates of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and final services, they were 49.03%, 45.19%, 33.00% and 77.03%, respectively. The values of the intervals between the 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd services were, in days, 42.88 ± 4.39 and 43.11 ± 3.33, respectively. The birth rate and pregnancy loss were 69.58% and 9.67%, respectively. The reproductive indexes of each of the categories were obtained, where the multiparous obtained the best results. Although the values of the reproductive indices obtained were satisfactory, in order to have a better reproductive efficiency, it is still necessary to better manage some factors on the property, such as data management, so that the producer does not have losses due to lack of information, mainly related to reproductive management.
