SUMMARY:
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of concentrated supplementation on intake, nutrient digestibility, milk production and composition of lactating primiparous dairy cows under grazing, as well as the inclusion of cassava silage, replacing corn in the diet. Ten primiparous Girolando cows were used, distributed in two 5 x 5 Latin squares. The treatments consisted of four levels of inclusion of cassava root silage in the supplement, as follows: 0; 30; 66 and 100% of the concentrate dry matter, and a treatment without concentrated supplementation (SSC), which was with animals fed only on pasture. The consumption of MSTotal, CP, EE, CNF and NDT was lower for the animals without concentrated supplementation when compared to the supplemented animals, whereas the consumption of MSPasto and NDT was higher for the animals without concentrated supplementation. The CMS(g/kgPV) did not show significant difference (P>0.05) for animals fed with or without concentrated supplementation. There was no difference (P>0.05) in total dry matter (DM), intake of DM from pasture, supplement, organic matter (CMO), crude protein (CPB), indigestible neutral detergent fiber (CFDNi) and consumption of total digestible nutrients (TDN) between the levels of inclusion of cassava silage in the concentrate supplement, but there was a decreasing linear difference (P<0.05) for the consumption of ether extract (CEE) and neutral detergent fiber (CFDN) and there was an increasing linear effect (P<0.05) for the consumption of non-fibrous carbohydrates (CCNF). When evaluating the contrast between the animals supplemented and without concentrate supplementation, it was found that there was a difference (p<0.05) for all variables, where the animals supplemented with cassava silage had higher digestibility values. As for the evaluation of the levels of inclusion of cassava silage in the feed of dairy cows, there was no effect (P>0.05) of the inclusion of cassava silage in the concentrate for any digestibility variable evaluated. Daily milk production (PLD), corrected daily milk production (ECM Milk), protein, lactose, casein and defatted dry extract (ESD) showed significant differences (P<0.05), being higher for animals that received concentrated supplementation . There was no difference (P>0.05) for any of the variables of milk production and composition between the levels of inclusion of cassava silage in the concentrate. Concentrated supplementation for primiparous lactating cows under grazing promotes an increase in the total consumption of dry matter and nutrients, improves the digestibility and use of the nutrients provided, providing better productive performance to the animals. Cassava root silage can replace up to 100% corn in the diet of primiparous lactating cows under grazing, without harming the performance of the animals and does not interfere with the consumption and digestibility of the feed provided.
