CHARACTERIZATION OF BUFFALO PRODUCTION IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF TARTARUGALZINHO-AP

Brazil stands out as the largest producer of buffalo on the American continent and has the largest buffalo herd outside of Asia. Buffalo livestock plays an important socioeconomic role for the country, contributing to food production and generating jobs and income. Beef buffalo farming is the main activity carried out in the north of the country, while in the South and Southeast, dairy production prevails. Amapá's buffalo farming has been standing out in national livestock farming for having the second largest commercial herd, only behind Pará. The municipality of Tartarugalzinho-AP, has the third largest herd in the state, being the first in the North region of the State. Despite technological and scientific advances linked to livestock farming, buffalo farming presents many challenges. The activity is practiced. mainly in the North region, in an extensive, rudimentary way, with low-skilled labor, with little investment, resulting in low zootechnical indexes and economic losses for producers. This research seeks, through the application of a structured questionnaire, to understand the socioeconomic profile of buffalo breeders, in addition to characterizing the buffalo farming production system in the municipality of Tartarugalzinho AP, covering its productive, sanitary, nutritional and reproductive aspects. The research population consists of 205 rural properties that raise buffalo, of which 134 will serve as samples. The sample size was calculated using the openEpi program, version 3.01, and their selection was carried out through random draws using the Microsoft® Excel 2019 spreadsheet.
