SUMMARY:

Primates have been experimental study models for more than 5 thousand years, and have been an effective model for the applicability of techniques in humans. These individuals are widely distributed worldwide, and theirtaxonomic proximity to humans leads to even more interest in biomedical, behavioral and biological applications.Understanding better about of these animals skin, in addition to clarifying their biology and behavior, also helps in carrying out new treatments and complementary dermatological exams. In non-human primates (NHPs) there is talk of variation in the color of the skin, hair, attached and pigment glands, but these studies are still scarce both due to the lack of techniques that can elucidate these characteristics, and due to little knowledge (almost none) about respect for the characteristics of the skin of these animals. The studies can also serve as a basis for otherresearch, such as the characterization of dermoscopic patterns of various skin diseases, as already exists in dogs and cats. Dermoscopy in NHPs can offer a series of benefits: Assisting in the identification and monitoring ofdermatopathies, enhancing research capacity and improving the clinical management of these animals and can open new possibilities for research, understanding the pathophysiology of the skin and potentially assisting in the development of new treatments and diagnostic criteria. Dermoscopy can lead to a quicker diagnosis and may eliminate the need to perform more invasive diagnostic tests, such as skin biopsies. To learn more about the skin of PNHs, a description was made of the main dermatological aspects, dermatopathies and the use ofdermoscopy, aiming to describe the dermatological findings of the skin of non-human primates (Alouatta caraya and Chlorocebus aethiops) dermatologically healthy; prepare a record for anamnesis and dermatological diagnosis of non-human primates, describe the dermatological findings on the skin of healthy non-humanprimates; compare dermoscopy data with histological examination; evaluate the usefulness and applicability of dermoscopy for the dermatological examination of non-human primates.
