SUMMARY:

Neoplasias are common causes of death in dogs, and in the diagnosis of the disease, histopathological examination allows us to safely state the nature of the neoplastic lesion. They originate from epithelial, mesenchymal, round and melanocytic cells. Neoplastic processes have diverse and unknown etiologies, with many of the cutaneous neoplasias forming due to exposure to carcinogenic agents such as ultraviolet radiation. The objective of this study was to retrospectively analyze cutaneous and mammary neoplasias in 138 dogs domiciled in the Metropolitan region of Macapá, AP, during the period of five years (2020 to 2024). The study analysis method used data from histopathological reports from files of veterinary clinics in the Metropolitan region of Macapá, Amapá, containing the identification of the animal, including age range, breed, sex, location of the neoplasia and histopathological diagnosis. Samples from surgeries performed at the Municipal Veterinary Hospital of Macapá were also used, and were processed, analyzed and diagnosed by the Animal Pathology Laboratory of the Federal Rural University of the Amazon - LABOPAT/UFRA. The occurrence of neoplasms was correlated with the following variables: sex, age, breed, location (cutaneous/mammary), neoplastic type and biological behavior (benign/malignant). The data were tabulated in spreadsheets and the absolute and relative frequencies of the different neoplasms were established. The associations established regarding the type of neoplasm, gender and origin of the neoplasms were established through the chi-square test with Yates corrections and a significance level of 5%. A total of 159 neoplasms were diagnosed from 138 animals, of which 116 (84.06%) presented only one neoplastic process, where 59 cases/animals (50.86%) presented only mammary neoplasms and 57 cases/animals (49.14%) presented only cutaneous neoplasms. Regarding neoplasms in general, 90 biopsies were of cutaneous neoplasms and 69 of mammary neoplasms. Malignant neoplasms corresponded to 64.50% (109/169) of the cases and benign neoplasms 35.50% (60/169). Of the cutaneous neoplasms, 50 biopsies (55.55%) were malignant, occurring in 23 males and 27 females, respectively, and 40 benign (44.45%), present in 24 males and 16 females, respectively. As for mammary neoplasms, there were 59 malignant cases (85.51%), 03 in males and 56 in females, and 10 benign cases (14.49%) and none in males. Regarding the breed standard, 33.33% were of mixed breed, 13.77% of the Poodle breed, 9.42% Pitbull and 7.97% Shihzu, as the most affected. Regarding the age group, 48% were elderly (from 10 years old), 38% adults (1 - 9 years old), 3% puppies (0 - 11 months) and 11% unknown. Through the study it was possible to conclude that the incidence of neoplasms in dogs is associated with the longevity of the animals, as well as the high incidence of mammary and cutaneous neoplasms, mainly in females.
