Helminth fauna of Batrachoides surinamensis (Bloch & Schneider, 1801) (Osteichthyes – Pisce) of commercial importance in two environments: Soure and Bragança, Pará, Brazil
Batrachoids. Helminths. Parasites.
Fishing has been carried out for a long time by human beings, which gives it a source of subsistence in Brazil. The family Batrachoididae is represented in Brazil by 6 genera and 13 species including Batrachoides surinamensis, a fish normally found in shallow brackish waters of estuarine environments. A total of 120 specimens of B. surinamensis from Soure, on Marajó Island, and Bragança in the northeast of the State of Pará will be analyzed from 2022 to 2023. Samples will be obtained from artisanal fishermen, at the time of landing, in the fish warehouses. The parasitic helminths found will be processed for analysis by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Histology, and molecular biology. Catalogs, identification keys, books and scientific articles with original descriptions and redescription of species will be used to identify the taxon. They will be counted, under a stereomicroscope, to determine the parameters of prevalence (%), mean intensity of infection (IMI) and mean abundance (in %). The data will be tabulated and compared with the data present in the existing literature for each identified taxon. In view of the above, it is necessary to search for information regarding the parasitic ichthyofauna of B. surinamensis, to generate knowledge about the parasitic biodiversity of these fish, in addition to contributing by adding data to the pertinent literature, through the production of scientific articles.
