PAGES: 50
BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Zootecnia
SUMMARY:

Corn hybrids are developed with specific characteristics that enable high dry matter productivity per hectare, better adaptation to different climatic conditions, and offer production stability for beef and dairy farmers. The evaluation of these hybrids for silage production is essential, since the market offers a wide variety of genotypes, many of which still lack detailed characterization. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of commercial corn hybrids for silage production in the municipality of Igarapé-Açu, located in northeastern Pará. Two experiments were conducted. The first was carried out under field conditions in the experimental area of the Igarapé-Açu School Farm of the Federal Rural University of the Amazon – UFRA, and consisted of the implantation of four commercial semi-hard corn hybrids (K9105, 2B512, RB9006 and K9960) for evaluation according to the days after sowing (30, 45, 59, 73, 80, 87, 94, 99 and 108 days) regarding agronomic and morphometric characteristics. The morphological and chemical composition analyses occurred after 80 days. The hybrids were harvested for silage production at 99 days in drums to evaluate the fermentation, microbiological and chemical composition characteristics. It was observed that the hybrid RB9006 presented greater height and diameter of the stem at 30 days and at 94 days, however it had lower dry matter productivity and lower grain productivity in relation to the hybrids K9105 and 2B512. The higher proportion of grains in the silages of the hybrids K9105 and 2B512 are characteristics that are associated with the lower levels of neutral detergent fiber found in these silages. The studied corn hybrids presented low productive performance for this region of northeastern Pará compared to other regions of Brazil, this fact is directly related to the edaphoclimatic differences that are important for the adequate development of these plants.
