KEY WORDS:

PAGES: 52
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Parasitologia
SUBÁREA: Helmintologia de Parasitos
SPECIALTY: Helmintologia Animal
SUMMARY:

It is common the report on the occurrence of helminths in animals of production, given its sanitary and economic importance in Veterinary Medicine. The most common genera found are Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Cooperia, Trichostrongylus, Oesophagostomum, Paraphistomum, and a few others mentioned as Onchocerca and Setaria, the latter parasitoids in buffaloes and cattle from the Marajó archipelago are the focus of the present study. For this purpose, the carcass inspection and blood collection of 280 animals were inspected at the abattoirs of the Cooperative of the Livestock Industry of Pará (SOCIPE) and in the Municipal Abattoir of Soure. Slides were prepared with the blood of the hosts, which were stained with Panótico Rápido® and then analyzed under a light microscope. Adult helminths were collected and fixed with A.F.A solution (2% glacial acetic acid, 95% 3% formaldehyde and 70% GL ethanol) for 24 hours according to standard microscopic analysis and processing techniques. In addition, DNA extraction from the host blood was also performed to verify the presence of microfilariae and adult parasites, aiming to characterize them according to molecular biology. Adult parasites were found on the white viscera and on the serous layers of the host small intestines. Scanning electron microscopy evidenced characters not observed in light microscopy, such as hairy papillae near the oral capsule and amphidia in the anterior region, and the amount and arrangement of cloacal papillae in males. Light microscopy revealed the absence of microfilariae in the examination of the blood of bovine hosts. Adult nematodes showed characteristics of the Onchocercidae family, requiring more detailed studies to elucidate the species.
