SUMMARY:

This study aims to evaluate the productivity, chemical composition, and nutritive value of Mavuno grass in relation to cutting ages and the time of year in the Cerrado biome. The goal is to understand the pasture growth dynamics based on management and the time of year, and to generate appropriate management recommendations for Mavuno grass in the central-western region. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Unit Fazenda Água Limpa of the University of Brasília. The trial took place in a Mavuno grass pasture of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Mixe DRWN 12 previously established on Dark Red Latosol soil. Top-dressing fertilization was performed with the 04-14-08 fertilizer supplemented with urea, aiming to provide 50 kg P2O5/ha, 30 kg K2O/ha, and 150 kg N/ha. The evaluation period occurred between November 2018 and May 2019. The experimental design was a randomized block, distributed in a 7 x 4 factorial arrangement. The plot area was 3m x 4m, with seven cutting frequencies (28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 84, 112 days) and four cutting (growth) seasons (C1, C2, C3, C4), totaling twenty-eight treatments with three repetitions. The evaluated variables included dry matter production in kg/ha at each cutting frequency, dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), ash content (CZ), in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), lignin (LIG), nitrogen protein (N), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF).
