The purpose of the study was to characterize the buffalo farming developed in quilombos in the environmental protection area of the Curiaú river in the city of Macapá (AP). 12 buffalo farmers living in three quilombola communities were interviewed, from September 2023 to June 2024. A semi-structured questionnaire was used, consisting of 64 questions with open and closed questions about the Farms and their Buffalo Production Systems, about the Herd Bubaline, in addition to socioeconomic aspects. The data were categorized and subjected to exploratory analyzes such as frequency, percentages and cross tables, using SPSS version 26 statistical resources. The results showed that some aspects facilitate the development of buffalo farming in the Curiaú River APA, as well as some aspects that hinder this activity, which can lead to a gradual decline. These results pointed to the urgent need for intervention by government institutions in the economic, social, cultural and environmental areas, in order to include, in their annual Plans and Programs, proposals to combat the problems related to the creation of buffaloes listed by quilombo owners, aiming to optimize the Management of the APA of the Curiaú River and guarantee the continuity of Buffalo farming, as an activity that complements the income of families in quilombos.
