SUMMARY:

Growth promoters based on amino acids, minerals and B vitamins can be an alternative to correct nutritional deficiencies in beef cattle and improve the metabolic status of animals in stressful situations. Therefore, the objective this study was to evaluate the performance and blood glucose and cortisol concentrations of calves in the pre- and post-weaning, submitted to different injectable growth promoters. The experiment was conducted on a rural property located in the municipality of Santa Izabel do Pará, in the north-eastern region of Pará. 38 Angus x Nelore crossbred calves were used, with five months of age and initial body weight (BW) of 165.08 kg. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with weight and sex being the blocking factors. The animals were allocated to 3 treatments: Control (without application of promoters); Bovifort RF (with application of 8ml of the Bovifort RF promoter); and Ultimato (with application of 8ml of the Bovifort Ultimato promoter). During the experimental period, the animals were kept at pasture, in a rotational stocking system, receiving mineral salt supplementation. The growth promoters were applied subcutaneously at two moments: at the start of the experiment (day 01) and at weaning (day 98). Blood samples were taken by jugular vein puncture on the same day as weaning (day 98) and thirteen days (day 111) after weaning. The final BW was higher for the Ultimato treatment (P<0.1). The growth promoters had no influence (P>0.1) on ADG and GW pre-weaning. However, at post-weaning, the animals in the Ultimato group had higher ADG and GW (P<0.1). ADGT2 and GWT were also higher for the Ultimato treatment (P<01). The growth promoters did not influence blood concentrations of glucose and cortisol (P>0.1). According to the results of this study, the growth promoter Bovifort Ultimato provided greater performance for calves in the weaning period.
