SUMMARY:

Brazil is one of the countries that stands out the most in the world meat agribusiness, and specifically in relation to beef, and has one of the largest commercial herds in the world and the largest exporter in the world. However, despite their privileged condition in the breeding and slaughtering of these animals, economic losses are significant and should be avoided. The problems are notorious throughout the pre-slaughter period, resulting in products with low sensory and nutritional quality. Failures in production are reflected on animal welfare, increasing the incidence of negative behavior, homeostatic imbalance, higher incidence of accidents, occurrence of infectious and/or parasitic diseases, bruises and injuries to animals. welfare, increasing the incidence of negative behavior, homeostatic imbalance, higher incidence of accidents, occurrence of infectious and/or parasitic diseases, bruises and injuries to animals. The quality of the meat is influenced by several aspects, among them the occurrence of bruises on the carcass, generating economic losses in the commercialization. In view of this, information will be collected, through a database of the period from October to February, from a slaughterhouse, located in the municipality of Castanhal/PA, the effects of the transport distances of the cattle on the contusion of the carcasses, as well as evaluate the quality of the transport to the appearance of the extent and age of the lesions in the carcasses, associating the type of truck and time of year. Thus, studies with the purpose of demonstrating factors related to pre-slaughter that impact on quantitative losses in the cattle carcass, ranging from shipment in rural enterprises to slaughter in slaughterhouses, still have little dissemination, especially to the North region. Therefore, fostering research on the identification of influencing factors will enable the implementation of management strategies that mitigate production losses. The independent variables considered to cause injuries will be the Amazon season (rainy and non-rainy), type of transport vehicle (1 or 2 floors), and distance traveled, according to the city of origin.
