SUMMARY:

The commercial turtle farming is seen as an opportunity to Kinosternon scopioides conservation in the Amazon, due to the threat of predatory hunting, drived by the interest in animal's meat. In this sense, this research sought to study the species and its breeding system based on zootechnical, environmental and molecular parameters. The study will be divided into four research lines. In the first one, a review was carried out on the theme that involves the breeding system, following the six criteria to an integrative review: Identification of the theme and selection of the question to be researched; Definition of criteria for inclusion and exclusion of the bibliography; Organization of selected studies; Evaluation and categorization of included studies; Analysis and interpretation of results and Presentation of the study synthesis of knowledge. Preliminary results lead to the conclusion that the activity demands low requirements by area, infrastructure and water use; that commercial breeding as a form of conservation represents a reduction in expenses in programs aimed at this purpose and that it is important to increase reproductive knowledge through molecular biology tools. In the second, an Aquaterrarium is described as a model for the maintenance and conservation of the animal. As a basis for this system, the structure was guided within an Amazonian environment, respecting the peculiarities, associated with the precepts that knowledge of the animals' needs is the key to understanding their wellfare. The third and fourth lines, still under development, seek to produce knowledge in the molecular biology field, based on gene expression and genetic markers as tools to promote selection and improvement of captive reproduction breeding. In the third, the profile gene expression of FOXL2, C-MOS, BMPR1B, BMP15, GDF9, FSHR, LEPR, will be established from sequences from other chelonian species, available in the GenBank database. In vertebrates, these genes are important since of their important role in the follicles ovarian maturation, which are indicators of reproductive capacity. For the third one, genes available in the GenBank database, were searched from other chelonian species, to design primers that allow the expression profile of the genes FOXL2, C-MOS, BMPR1B, BMP15, GDF9, FSHR, LEPR, due their important role in the maturation of ovarian follicles, which are indicators of reproductive capacity. Finally, based on the knowledge that the C-MOS gene encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase that activates oocyte maturation and their transition regulation, the fourth research aims to associate the polymorphism found in this gene to the zootechnical characteristics on the studied population.
