SOIL SEED BANK IN SUCCESSIONAL ECOSYSTEM IN EASTERN AMAZON, BRAZIL

PALAVRAS-CHAVES:

Succession; regeneration of forests; diversity of stored seeds.

PÁGINAS: 40
GRANDE ÁREA: Ciências Agrárias
ÁREA: Recursos Florestais e Engenharia Florestal
RESUMO:

After any disorder that promotes alteration to floristic composition and in the structure of local vegetation, nature itself seeks ways to rebalance itself, one of the methods of maintaining their survival is natural regeneration. The seed bank is an example of an indicator for evaluating areas restored because it is part of the dynamic succession process and presenting part of the potential of individuals within the ecosystem (SIQUEIRA, 2002; MARTINS et al., 2008).

In this context for the studied area, the following questions and hypotheses arise: Is there a predominance of ecological groups, life habits and dispersal syndromes in the phytosociologic structure of a forest at 32 years of age? (H1 - The hypothesis to be tested is that there is a predominance in the classifications mentioned, for a forest in the process of establishment); Is the phytosociologic structure of the studied area represented in its entirety in the composition of your seed bank? (H2 - The hypothesis to be tested is that the seed bank partially represents the floristic composition of the forest) ; Does the seed bank in a secondary forest undergo significant change if undergoing treatments at some recovery period? (H3 - The hypothesis to be tested is that water and organic matter availability affect the composition of the bank).

To test the hypotheses, it is intended to evaluate forest structure and seed bank composition in a successional area 32 years after multiple cycles, with plots submitted to different treatments during the years 2001-2006. Plots that did not suffer interference in the reestablishment process (Control Portions), Plots with irrigation in the reduction period of the water regime (Irrigation Plots) and Plots with monthly removals from the soil litter layer (Removal Plots).

A 120 samples should be collected in 12 plots divided between the three different treatments, after collections will be submitted to evaluation in a greenhouse for eight months. Individuals should be quantified, identified and classified as to ecological group, living habit and dispersal syndrome, evaluated density, dominance and frequencies (relative) and importance value index (IVI), and compared all results by treatment, when necessary should be logaritimized and submitted to D' Agostinho tests for normality, Bartlett test for homogeneity of variance and data independence, as well as analysis of simple variance (ANOVA) and comparison of the seed banks by treatment by Tukey test (p <0.05), aiming to verify the three hypotheses respectively
