RESUMO:

Manilkara elata (Allemão ex Miq.) Monach. is among the most commercialized tree species in the Legal Amazon. Knowing the growth rhythm growth of the species to be managed is of great importance, because, from this information it is possible to know which species will have volume to be withdrawn in future of harvest. Thus, the aim of this study was to estimate the growth rates of M. elata population and how long this species needs to reach the minimum cut diameter as well as other sizes by from the fit of a diametric growth model. Data from 31 years of monitoring of a managed and unmanaged area in the Tapajós National Forest, Belterra, PA were used. The Weibull probabilistic density distribution model was adjusted to estimate the increment, future diameter, and the time that the trees need to reach a given diameter size. No statistical differences were observed between the observed and estimated values of diameter increase and future diameter by the Weibull model for the M. elata population.  A tree of M. elata of five centimeters in diameter needs about 450 years to reach the minimum cut diameter cut and about 750 years to reach the maximum diameter found for this population. The model tested showed good results to estimate the growth and the future diameter of the trees, as well as the time that the individuals of this population take to reach the minimum cut diameter cut and other sizes.
