GREEN FILTERS: EVALUATION OF SPECIES APPLIED IN URBAN AFFORDATION IN DIFFERENT ROAD CORRIDORS IN EASTERN AMAZON.

Urban afforestation in large cities, such as Belém, must be carried out with care to ensure ecological and landscape benefits, in addition to mitigating environmental impacts such as air pollution. In Belém, only 22.3% of the area is covered by trees, despite its history of afforestation, such as the introduction of the mango tree in the 18th century and urban transformations in the 19th century. The city faces disorderly growth and problems with vegetation due to urban expansion and pollution. The increasing emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) has impacted the climate and human health, increasing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. To address these problems, it is essential to promote GHG reduction and adaptation policies, in addition to promoting the sustainable use of urban vegetation. In Belém, afforestation has been regulated with specific guidelines since 2013. This study analyzes five tree species in Belém and their ability to absorb air pollutants, aiming to understand how they contribute to improving air quality in the city. The selected species are Andira uchi, Mangueira, Pau-preto, Oitizeiro and Ipê-roxo. Data collection will be carried out in urban areas to evaluate the effectiveness of these trees in absorbing pollutants, using analytical techniques to measure the presence of heavy metals and other contaminants.
