SUMMARY:

One of the main recognized aspects for achieving sustainability in forest management, biodiversity conservation, and responsible use of natural resources in the Amazon is the improvement of botanical identification in forest inventories. In this context, the present study aims to contribute to improvements in forest management through species determination using botanical methods and tools that ensure accuracy in species identification. The study area is UMF IV, located in the Paru State Forest (FLOTA) in the municipality of Monte Alegre. Botanical material will be collected from the most commonly traded species in the area, and botanical samples from 5 different trees per species will be collected. The determination of the scientific names of each species will be conducted, as well as the characterization of the species and differentiation of species associated with the same common name. Thus, the goal is to understand the taxonomic characteristics of these species and assess the impact of irregular botanical identification on the horizontal structure of the managed forest.
