"ORCHIDACEAE IN SERRA DOS MARTÍRIOS-ANDORINHAS, MUNICIPALITY OF SÃO GERALDO DO ARAGUAIA, PARÁ, BRAZIL"

KEY WORDS:

Amazon, Floristic, Orchidaceae, Pará, Taxonomy.

PAGES: 83
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Botânica
SUMMARY:

In Brazil, Orchidaceae is the most expressive botanical family, with 251 genera and 2,692 species, of which 1,490 are restricted to the country. The phytogeographic domain of the Amazon covers about 30% of this species richness, especially given the high number of endemic orchids. In the Brazilian Amazon, the state of Pará is the second with the highest diversity of orchids, but with recognized gaps in botanical collections, justifying the continuity of floristic-taxonomic studies in the region, including orchidaceae. The Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas State Park (PESAM) is a State Conservation Unit, located in the municipality of São Geraldo do Araguaia, in the Southeast region of Pará, in a transition zone between the phytogeographic domains of the Amazon and the Cerrado. Despite having recognized complexity of phytophysiognomies, PESAM is inserted in the so-called Arc of Deforestation, which makes the need for knowledge and preservation of local biodiversity blatant. The orchid flora of the Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas was previously estimated in 76 species distributed in 36 genera, but the data were not correlated with the testimony materials, making it impossible to validate this information. Given the wide number of listed species and the diversity of phytophysiognomies in the region, the objective was to present a taxonomic treatment of Orchidaceae for the Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas, including vouchers, descriptions, taxonomic identification key of genera and species, and illustrations of taxa. Two expeditions were carried out for collection in the study area, in addition to the survey of herbaria FCCM, IAN, HF, MFS, HCP, HIFPA and MG. For PESAM, 53 species distributed in 33 genera (7 endemic) were recorded. The most diverse genera were Habenaria Willd., with eight species, Catasetum Rich. kunth ex. and Epidendrum L., with 3 species, Coryanthes Hook., Cyrtopodium R.Br, Encyclia Hook., Epistephium Kunth, Galeandra Lindl., Maxillaria Ruiz & Pavón, Polystachya Hook, Scaphyglottis Poepp. & Endl. and Vanilla Plum. ex Mill, present two species each, the other genera with one species each, with elaboration of identification key of the species, and making boards with illustrations.
