"Luehea Willd., Mollia Mart. e Vasivaea Baill. IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON"
Grewioideae, amazonian flora, taxonomy.
Among the genus of Malvaceae occurring in the Brazilian Amazon, which were previously housed in Tiliaceae and do not need an updated taxonomic treatment, Luehea, Mollia and Vasivaea, included in the subfamily Grewioideae, can be highlighted. In Brazil there are 14 species of Luehea, six in the Amazon, 13 species of Mollia with an Amazonian diversity center, and Vasivaea comprises 2 specific species from the biome mentioned above. Such genus still lack updated taxonomic treatments, especially in the Brazilian Amazon, a region in which the vast majority of their species occur. In view of the above, a taxonomic study of the three aforementioned genus is proposed, including morphological, phytogeographic and nomenclatural aspects, based on herborized collections, including types, and samples to be obtained in the field when possible. The study will be based primarily on analysis of exsiccates deposited in Amazonian, extra-Amazonian and international herbariums, in addition to data analysis from online platforms. The species identification will be done by the classic methods of plant taxonomy, such as dissection, measurement and illustration of the vegetative and reproductive parts, and through the analysis of some types, diagnoses and descriptions in the literature. This study aims to carry out an updated treatment on the species of Luehea, Mollia and Vasivaea occurring in the Brazilian Amazon, including complete descriptions, illustrations, comments on affinities, nomenclature and geographic distribution. And it seeks to contribute even more to the knowledge of Brazilian flora.
