RESUMO:

Radula Dumort. is a monotypic genus that includes 246 species in the globe, with greater diversity in tropical and subtropical regions. The members of this group are recognized by the presence of Radula-type branches, incubous leaves, underleaves absent, presence of rhizoides in tufts on lobule surface, and tubular, dorsiventrally flattened perianth. The objective of this study is to carry out a taxonomic study of the genus Radula in Brazil. The genus Radula in Brazil based on morphological characters leads to the recognition of 32 species and one variety. A key for the species, taxonomic descriptions and illustrations are provided, as well as comments on geographic distribution and ecology for all species registered in the country. Five new records for Brazil are registered, including Radula complanata, R. convexa, R. longiloba, R. punctata, and R. xalapensis, besides the description of two new species and one new variety, R. bahiensis, R. yamadae and R. fendleri var. paroica, respectively. In addition, two species are restated for Brazil, R. pseudostachya and R. subinflata, and two species are excluded for the country, R. elliottii and R. varilobula. Three species (R. saccatiloba, R. microloba and R. wrightii) were classified as doubtful. Four lectotypes (R. epiphylla (=R. flaccida), R. quadrata, R. tenera, and R. stenocalyx) and one neotype (R. yanoella) are designated and one new synonym for R. pallens is proposed.
