RESUMO:

In 2008, Padial, Bini and Thomaz published a paper that aimed to identify the main trends and gaps in research on aquatic macrophytes for Neotropics. Eleven years have passed and during this period Brazil has invested in education and research at universities, and taking into account that macrophytes are easy to identify, it is a cheap group to work with and responds quickly to environmental variations, will the scenario of publications found by the aforementioned authors has changed today? The purpose of this study is to identify trends and gaps in research on aquatic macrophytes in the Amazon biome. A scientometric study was carried out using two important databases: Scopus and Web of Science, where 511 documents were found published between 1970 and 2019. The analyzes were made through tabulated spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, analyzes and graphs made in the R environment , using the GGPLOT2 and Bibliometrix packages and editing graphics in Inkscape 0.92.4 software. After some filters, 172 articles remained that participated in the analysis showing an increase in the number of publications, mainly from 2008. Most of the studies took place in Brazilian lands, mainly in the state of Amazonas by institutions belonging to the state and published in journals such as Hydrobiology. Despite the rapid growth of publications, there are still few articles published on the subject and the vast majority of articles have been published in Brazil, requiring greater action by researchers from other countries that are members of the Amazon biome. The reduction of these international inequalities through cooperation and knowledge sharing between countries in the Amazon biome and increasing scientific production is essential to exclude knowledge gaps.
