RESUMO:

Sapindaceae is a monophyletic family that has as one of its synapomorphic characters the well-developed nectariferous discs. Floral nectaries can establish mutualistic relationships with animals through nectar, which is the main resource offered as a reward to pollinators. Among the family representatives for the state, we highlight Serjania paucidentata DC, a native species from Brazil that had its first record for Pará in 2013. This species is characterized by uni and bisexual flowers, both with the presence of floral nectaries at the base. of its flowers with high secretory activity in the period of the floral anthesis. This work proposes to anatomically characterize the floral nectaries found in Serjania paucidentata DC flowers with an emphasis on their ontogeny, structure, and function. For this, samples at different developmental stages will be fixed in dehydrated FAA (formalin acetic acid and ethanol) and SFF (formalin ferrous sulfate), sectioned and paraffin, sectioned and stained, in addition to SEM analysis. The extraction of nectar will be through capillary tubes, flowers at different stages of development and times of day, as well as the concentration of sugar in nectar in each floral morph obtained through a refractometer. The botanical samples collected will be identified by specialists and deposited at Herbarium MG - João Murça Pires of the Paraense Emilio Goeldi Museum. With the analyzes, we intend to answer the following questions: are the nectaries present in unisex and bisexual flowers anatomically different? Are floral nectaries involved in reproduction? Is the type of exudate distinct in unisex and bisexual flowers? What role do these structures play? It is noteworthy that this study will contribute to the floral knowledge of the species in question, as well as help to elucidate the evolutionary history of the nectaries in Sapindales with the characterization and understanding of one more representative of the group.
