Knowledge and Traditional Uses of Medicinal Plants by Specialists from Ilha das Onças, Barcarena, Pará, Brazil.

This proposal aims to characterize the use of medicinal plants among experts from riparian communities of Ilha das Onças, Barcarena-PA, as a way to contribute to the valorization of the local Phyto-pharmacopeia and the conservation of amazon medicinal plants that composes it, identifying which of these deserve special attention in priority conservation actions. Ethnobotanical data will be collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation with local experts, identified through the “Snowball” technique. Analyzes dedicated to the selection of medicinal species relevant to communities will be performed qualitative and quantitative way, including the Fidelity Level (NF) and Value of Importance (IVs) indices. The conservation status of medicinal species will be informed by consulting the national and international official lists, complemented by experts information to estimate the Sensitivity Index (IS). With this study, it will be possible to value the traditional knowledge of local experts about the plants used in health care in the riverside communities of Ilha das Onças, allowing us to identify which species in the local phyto-pharmacopeia deserve priority attention for conservation strategies.
