RESUMO:

The Crotoneae tribe, belonging to Euphorbiaceae, consists of Croton L, Acidocroton Griseb., Astraea Klotzch, Brasiliocroton P. E Berry & Cordeiro, Ophellantha Standl., Sagotia Baill. and Sandwithia Lanj. Due to its morphological diversity, taxonomic coverage and wide geographic distribution, several studies have been performed mainly in Croton, the most representative in number of species, emphasizing that the diversity and typology of trichomes is an important taxonomic character within the tribe. Nevertheless, there is a need for the use of morphological characters such as this one, which help in the delimitations of the group. The structural diversity observed is part of descriptive anatomical studies and / or taxonomic treatments, which include several other characters or few species that do not reflect the taxonomic richness of the tribe. Thus, from the relevance of this character, and its numerous states, it is noted the need for a typological review of trichomes, expanding and assisting in new discoveries within the group, achieving a more robust sampling for Crotoneae. For this purpose, this work aims to review and update the classification of leaf trichomes in the main Crotoneae lineages of the Old and New World. From a database under construction, built by leading experts in Euphorbiaceae, will be added 76 species that have not yet been used in studies with this focus, distributed in 15 sections and 3 subsections of Croton, thus completing the database for the tribe. All material comes from exsiccates deposited in national and international herbaria, submitted to the reversal process of herborization and subsequent treatments for analysis in light and scanning electron microscopy, in the respective laboratories at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. From the production of a matrix, clustering analysis will be performed to identify possible distribution patterns of the different character states. From these analyzes, we intend to answer the following questions: Are there new typologies of trichomes present in new taxa belonging to the tribe? Are there typological patterns of trichomes that can be related to the tribe's subordinate taxonomic categories? What is the impact of trichome revision to describe new taxa? After observation and characterization of trichomes it is expected to provide an updated classification to be widely used for trichomes classification in the tribe.
