"Malvaceae Juss. in the Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas, São Geraldo do Araguaia, Pará, Brasil"
Amazon, Cerrado, Conservation, Floristic, Taxonomy.
"Malvaceae has 243 genus and 4300 species, 37 genus and 132 species for Pará state. The family has economic importance in the textile, food, ornamental and invasive species of culture. The family is mainly distributed in the tropical and subtropical region and also in temperate regions, being found in several environments, comprising the tree stratum, understory and in open areas. Study area is located in São Geraldo do Araguaia city, southeast of Pará state. It´s an area with remarkable biological and cultural diversity, include areas of Amazon and Cerrado biome, and it is in the called “deforestation arc”, where is the most amazon deforestation. Due to the importance of the area were created two conservations units, São Geraldo do Araguaia Environmental Protection Area (APA Araguaia) and Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas State Park (PESAM). Floristic surveys are significant as they allow a deeper flora´s understanding of a place. However, few floristic studies with Malvaceae in the Amazon region have been conducted in recent decades, with only one for the Ducke reserve (Amazonas) and one for the Serra dos Carajás (Pará). Does not exist Floristic surveys with Malvaceae in Serra dos Martírios-Andorinhas, and so the importance of present study. This proposal aims to carry out the survey and taxonomic study the Malvaceae genera and species occurring in PESAM and APA Araguaia, São Geraldo do Araguaia, Pará, Brazil. Materials used are from collection expeditions and Pará´s herbaria (HBRA, IAN, MFS, MG) and others that present collections with samples from the study area (e.g. CEN, FUEL, HUTO, RON). So far, after three collection expedition and preliminary consultation of the collections, a listing of 18 Malvaceae genera and 34 species was obtained. Sida pernambucensis Baracho & J.L.Brandão, Sida cerradoensis Krapov. and Pseudabutilon benense (Britton) Fryxell are new records for Pará state. Identification keys, descriptions, geographic distribution data, habitat, and illustrations of Malvaceae species and genera occurring in PESAM and APA Araguaia will be elaborate."
