RESUMO:

Cyperaceae Juss. comprises about 5,700 species encompassing 98 genera and is the third largest family among monocotyledons, with cosmopolitan distribution and great diversity of tropics and subtropics, such as dominated areas in temperate zones. In Brazil it is distributed in all phytogeographic domains, with about 670 species. Taxonomic studies focused on Cyperaceae are still scarce, but in Pará state research focused on the family are becoming growing, and publications with new species described for this region are increasingly recurring. The genus Bulbostylis Kunth comprises about 220 species, with pantropical distribution and occurs mainly in campinaranas, rupestrian fields, cerrado s.s., restingas and savannas. Bulbostylis is characterized by the presence of trichomes at the leaf sheath apex, 3(-2)-fids, nutlets trigones, rarely biconvex, with persistent, rarely deciduous stylopodium, and longitudinally enlarged pericarp superficial cells. Although important taxonomic studies on the genus have already been performed in other regions, for the state of Pará, there is no taxonomic study focused exclusively on Bulbostylis. In this context, the objective of this research is to perform a taxonomic treatment of Bulbostylis species occurring in the state of Pará, based on the materials deposited in the collections of Amazonian and extra-Amazonian herbaria; to reveal characters of strong taxonomic value, contributing to the elucidation of the delimitation to species of the genus, as well as enabling a greater understanding of the taxa belonging to the Amazonian Ciperological flora. In addition to the identification, will be presented morphological descriptions, taxonomic comments, distribution and habitat data, as well as illustrations of Bulbostylis species occurring in the state of Pará.
