RESUMO:

In the aquatic environments, several forms of contamination have been known, such as industrial
and agricultural activities, and also the irregular dumping of ore tailings, which can cause
imbalance limiting the development of present beings. Phytoremediation is a process that makes
use of plants for direct removal or decontamination by performing several important functions
within the aquatic ecosystem. Therefore, the objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of
mining on the richness, abundance and functional attributes of aquatic plants (macrophytes). This
project will be developed in the municipality of Barcarena-Pa, near the company HYDRO
ALUNORTE, comparing the area near the mining with control areas. A 50 meter stretch of the
stream will be traversed in which the macrophyte species will be identified. For abundance data,
PVC squares (1 m²) will be randomly placed in two sites within 50 meters, and the percentage of
coverage of each species present in this area of 1m² will be given. For the morphological attributes,
five leaves will be measured in five individuals of the two most frequent species, thus calculating
leaf mass by area, leaf dry matter content, leaf thickness and floating asymmetry. In the
physiological attributes, the foliar water potential and pressure-volume curves will be measured.
The limnological variables will be performed in a sampling unit of this study, with analysis of
water transparency (Secchi disk), electrical conductivity, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, total
phosphorus (P-total), total nitrogen ), N-nitrate, N-ammoniacal and alkalinity. All the procedures
will be analyzed through analytical methods based on regression (uni and multivariate), performing
coordinates analysis of neighborhood matrices (PCNM) to test spatial autocorrelation. For richness
and composition, we will use richness estimators and NMDS ordering technique. Metal indicators
will be tested using the T-Studant Test and ANOVA test. For these analyzes, we will make use of
the R, Estimates and Statistica Program. In the end, it is expected to have a specific view about the
central community of this study, seeking to point out the differences found and possible actions to
improve the aquatic environment altered by mining.
