RESUMO:

Aquatic macrophytes are herbaceous species that develop in the presence of water, which
encompass several taxonomic groups and enormous capacity of adaptation and ecological
amplitude. They provide refuge and habitat for various organisms, influence dynamics and
hydrology, and are important in the structuring and interactions of aquatic ecosystems. Aquatic
macrophytes develop very well and rapidly, so they may have characteristics that make them
invasive species at times. Biological invasion is a problem that causes losses on a global scale,
being considered the second biggest cause of loss of biodiversity. Invasive species need to
transpose biotic and abiotic filters to settle in a new region. Some studies have shown that shading
caused by riparian vegetation and resistance caused by native species (biotic resistance) reduces the
establishment of invasive species, so it is assumed that the high shading percentage will exclude
the invasive species and decrease the presence of native species, however, the native species will
be able to establish and to recolonize the place after the withdrawal of the shading. Therefore, the
objective of the present study is to identify the effect of shading on communities of aquatic
macrophytes with and without invasive species and verify if this measure can be used as a
management method. The research will be done in Utinga State Park, which is a State Conservation Unit in Belém do Pará. In this place we will select points invaded and not invaded by Urochloa arrecta, we will apply on control and two treatments of shading (48% and 93%), after two months of the shading will be removed and the species will be monitored to verify if the native species can establish themselves again diminishing or even totally excluding the invasive species. To answer the question will be a principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) to see the similarity of the sites and to measure if the invasive species was reduced from the site will be done an analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the biomass of the invasive species of the site with the highest and less shading.
