Phylogenomics, biogeography and taxonomic synopsis of Bonnetia Mart. (Bonnteiaceae)
Amazon, Evolution, Malpighiales, taxonomy
The tepuis are tabular mountains that represent the highest portions of the Amazon. Distributed in isolation from the surrounding vegetation, like islands, the tepuis have great plant richness and high endemism. In the rocky landscapes of the tepuis, the Bonnetia forests are a very rich ecosystems, home to many species of plants and animals. Bonnetia Mart. is the largest genus of the family, with 29 species, comprising a sister lineage to the other genera. The center of diversity of Bonnetia is in Pantepui where 26 species occur, of these 23 are endemic. The objective of this thesis is to conduct a phylogenomic and biogeographic study of the genus Bonnetia, contributing to the understanding of lineages from Pantepui, as well as to present a synopsis of the genus in order to clarify the species of the genus, understanding their geographic distribution and conservation status.
