SUMMARY:

Many studies that address the difficulties in contextualizing the teaching of Botany demonstrate the need to expand the use of non-formal spaces for practical classes that aid in the learning process. One of the pillars for this is the care with the continuing education of Biology teachers. One way to improve this issue is to know how these teachers relate to the use of non-formal spaces for teaching Botany. To do so, it is necessary to understand how they relate to these spaces, in addition to understanding how they explore them. In view of this, this project aims to identify how Biology teachers articulate the Botany content taught in the classroom with non-formal spaces. Thus, it aims to: ascertain the main challenges they face in contextualizing Botany when visiting non-formal spaces with their students; investigate the main approaches taken by these teachers and their main difficulties; explore the perceptions of these teachers about the use of non-formal spaces to work with Botany content; and discuss parameters for continuing education aimed at teaching Botany in non-formal spaces. To carry out this study, we will approach basic education biology teachers who use the Zoobotanical Park of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi for educational outings with their students. The methodology will be based on the continuing education of biology teachers, with an emphasis on the use of informal spaces for teaching botany. Data collection will be done through semi-structured interviews containing questions distributed in blocks of questions linked to three blocks, namely: a) How I learned to use informal spaces for teaching botany during my undergraduate studies; b) How I teach botany to my students in informal spaces; c) What are my basic concepts of botany and the possibilities of contextualization that I use in nature in the learning process of my students? Knowing how the biology teacher relates to informal spaces is essential in the search for strategies that assist in the learning process of botany. Pedagogical qualification must be the first step towards any methodological improvement. Thinking about strategies without understanding this teacher's training nullifies any effective and real attempt to teach Botany.
