TITLE:
Lentibulariaceae Rich. (Lamiales) of Maranhão, Brazil
KEY WORDS:
carnivorous plants, Genlisea, macrophytes, Northeast Brazil, Utricularia.
PAGES: 90
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Botânica
SUMMARY:
Lentibulariaceae (Lamiales) comprises around 360 species included in three genera: Genlisea, Pinguicula and Utricularia. in Brazil, two genera are recorded: Genlisea, with 19 native species and 12 endemic to the country, and Utricularia, with 71 native species and 21 endemic. Before this project, 20 species of the family had been previously recorded in Maranhão, a possibly underestimated number given the vast hydrographic network and the extensive wetlands such as the Baixada and Lençóis Maranhenses, areas that are still poorly sampled. In order to contribute to knowledge of the state's biodiversity, a taxonomic treatment of the Lentibulariaceae of Maranhão was produced. Field expeditions were carried out in the state's main wetlands to sample and photograph specimens, which were deposited in the region's herbaria. This treatment provides full descriptions, identification keys, photo plates, distribution maps in the state and updated comments on the geographical distribution of the species. Here, 33 species are presented: G. filiformis, G. oxycentron, U. adpressa, U. amethystina, U. benjaminiana, U. breviscapa, U. cornuta, U. costata, U. cucullata, U. cutleri, U. erectiflora, U. flaccida, U. foliosa, U. gibba, U. guyanensis, U. hirtella, U. hispida, U. hydrocarpa, U. lindmanii, U. longeciliata, U. myriocista, U. nana, U. nervosa, U. nigrescens, U. pusilla, U. resupinata, U. simulans, U. subulata, U. tenuissima, U. trichophylla, U. tricolor, U. triloba e U. velascoensis, of which 14 are new records for Maranhão: G. filiformis, U. benjaminiana, U. costata, U. cucullata, U. flaccida, U. hirtella, U. lindmanii, U. longeciliata, U. nervosa, U. nigrescens, U. tenuissima, U. trichophylla, U. tricolor and U. velascoensis, with U. lindmanii representing a new record for the Northeast, U. longeciliata, a new record for the Brazilian Cerrado, and U. cutleri, the first record in Amazonia. Genlisea guianensis and G. pygmaea, preliminarily cited for the state, were excluded from the list because their vouchers were not located. These results contribute to a greater understanding of the floristic diversity and distribution of the Lentibulariaceae in Amazonian and Cerrado phytophysiognomies, as well as expanding knowledge of the flora of Maranhão and supporting public policies in the state's conservation units.
