SUMMARY:

Human activities are the main causes of impacts on natural ecosystems, directly affecting the availability of habitats and causing loss of biodiversity. Brazil is the country that is home to the greatest biodiversity in the world, with more than half of the Amazon biome in the national territory, responsible for generating numerous ecosystem services of vital importance on a local, regional and global scale. Faced with the advancement of conversion and degradation of native vegetation, species extinction rates have been rising at a speed never before observed, being considered by many researchers as the sixth great wave of mass extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the environmental organization internationally recognized as the authority for monitoring biodiversity and carrying out risk assessments of species extinction. The assessment process determines the classification of species into different risk categories, according to their qualified threat status. The Red List of threatened species is an instrument that supports public policies at different levels, which can be aimed at determining restrictions on use and access to species, impacting Amazonian human communities that make use of socio-biodiversity products. Species distribution estimates can be prepared using the species distribution modeling technique, allowing the construction of potential distribution maps based on the correlation between species occurrence data and the environmental variables of their habitats. The objective of this project is to evaluate the effects of habitat loss and climate change on tree and palm species useful to human communities in the Brazilian Amazon, in different scenarios, determining the degree of threat of species extinction. The results obtained will allow us to analyze the distribution of species in the present and future, supporting the understanding of environmental and social impacts, as well as providing the basis for planning actions aimed at prevention.
