PAGES: 40
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Botânica
SUMMARY:

This project aims to analyze the effects of wildfires on the regenerating assembly (individuals smaller than 1m) in RESEX Tapajós-Arapiuns and the impacts on the ability of this forest to provide ecosystem services. To investigate the regeneration trajectory in the taxonomic and functional dimension, 24 permanent plots (250m x 5m) were implemented: ten plots without a history of fires (mature forest), seven plots that experienced a wildfire once (2015) and seven plots that experienced two wildfires (2015 and 2017); within each permanent plot, two subplots (10m x 5m) were established to inventory the regenerating plants. In total, 1684 individuals, 56 families, 116 genera and 186 species were identified in the database. The most abundant species in the regeneration of mature forests were Rinorea neglecta, Rinorea passoura, Inga umbellifera, and others. The most abundant species in the regeneration of areas burned once were Palicourea guianensis, Palicourea triphylla, Scleria gaertneri, and others. The most abundant species of regeneration in areas of forest burned twice were Scleria gaertneri, Palicourea guianensis, Solanum schlechtendalianum, and others. The rarefaction curve based on the number of individuals indicated a stabilization in forests burned twice and a higher beta diversity in mature forests and in forests burned once. Fires did not affect the species richness of these areas, and all habitats have equivalent species richness. The forest burned twice presents a higher density of individuals than in mature forest and forest burned once. The taxonomic composition of the regenerating assembly in forest burned twice is different from the composition of mature forest and burned once. The Indicator Value Index 1 species indicative of forest burned twice, Bactris concinna.
