AREA: Botânica
SUMMARY:

In this research, we sought to know and identify the system of use of medicinal plants in women's health care in the Afro-descendant context and to investigate traditional practices in a quilombola community in the municipality of Abaetetuba, state of Pará, contributing to the rescue, documentation, the appreciation and conservation of the Amazonian biodiversity. Two manuscripts were prepared, in chapter I an analysis of the theoretical framework was carried out and is entitled "Review of the literature on the knowledge of the use of medicinal plants in the health care of Brazilian quilombola women". Secondary data from 24 published articles were consulted. between 2000 and 2021 that directly addressed traditional knowledge in quilombola communities. A database was built containing information on 117 medicinal species used for women's health in the 40 quilombola communities established in the Caatinga (49 spp.), Atlantic Forest (44 spp..), Cerrado (29 spp.) and Amazônia (26 spp.). In Chapter II, entitled “Medicinal plants handled in women's health care in a quilombola community in the eastern Amazon”, interviews were conducted with 100 residents and material was collected. In order to analyze the variation in ethnobotanical knowledge, the variables age, gender and education were considered, and Generalized Linear Models were constructed and analyzed using the R software. , to evaluate the: Usage report (URs); Number of Uses (NUs); Citation Frequency Index (FCs); Cultural Importance Index (CIs) and Loyalty Level (FL). Medicinal species were also analyzed for their origin, conservation status and by the Conservation Priority Index. One hundred and fifteen plant species were indicated to treat 98 health problems, which include care of the genital tract and other comprehensive symptoms such as infections and pain. Medicinal plants perform various treatments associated with women's health, future research that proposes to analyze ethnopharmacological data on these plants can contribute to the appreciation of traditional practices, either through pharmacological studies to prove their effectiveness or toxicological studies to assess their safety.
