SUMMARY:

Biocultural practices make it possible to evaluate customs and traditions transmitted over generations, about natural resources, generating great benefits for the community in general, in addition to preserving the memory of know-how. This research sought to understand, analyze and discuss practices associated with biocultural tradition, income generation and heritage related to Mauritia flexuosa L. f. in Abaetetuba-PA, consequently valuing and conserving Miriti and associated knowledge. Collaborators were selected by the snowball method, followed by the presentation of the project to the artisans. For the ethical procedures and authorization of the study with the artisans, the project was submitted to the Plataforma Brasil and later, the signature of the Free and Informed Consent Form (TCLE) was requested. In addition, visits were made to the species' natural occurrence environments to collect botanical and phenological data. Experiences were made in ateliers for the production of pieces and in places where some miriti object/product is part of a manifestation or religious context. Finally, botanical samples and biocultural artifacts were collected for morphological analyses, herborization and inclusion of materials in collections. The collected data were tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet for further Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) and Pearson's collaboration coordinator. With this, 77 citations of biocultural uses of the palm were counted, these uses are organized into 12 categories, highlighting the food and craft purposes, the latter known worldwide for Miriti toys. These excursions took place in 11 locations, covering both the city and the islands of Abaetetuba. In addition, 112 biocultural artifacts were collected and incorporated into the collections of Ethnobotany and Economic Botany-MPEG and the Herbarium Profa. Dr. Marlene Freitas da Silva-UEPA.
