Orchidaceae from the Municipality of Cachoeira do Arari, Ilha de Marajó, Pará
Marajó Archipelago, Orchids, Richness, Taxonomy
The Orchidaceae family in the Amazon comprises about 133 genera and 783 species, and in Pará they are distributed among 94 genera and 377 species. However, although it has a high richness, there are still regions that are poorly sampled. The aim of this study is to conduct a floristic-taxonomic survey of the Orchidaceae species occurring in the municipality of Cachoeira do Arari, Marajó Island, Pará. Monthly field expeditions will be conducted from November 2022 to October 2023, during the dry and rainy periods in the region. Specimens will be collected and herborized when fertile and kept in a greenhouse when sterile for monitoring flowering and subsequent identification and herborization. To date, 26 species distributed in 19 genera have been listed. The most representative genus was Epidendrum L. occurring in all collection points, the species Prosthechea fragrans (Sw.) W.E.Higgins has an ambla distribution in all collection points. However, it is expected to find an even greater richness of species, since there are many places to be known and to contribute to the expansion of knowledge and conservation of the Orchidaceae that occur on Marajó Island and in the Brazilian Amazon.
