Bryophytes from Parque Nacional Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba, Brazilian Cerrado
Conservation units; Diversity; Marchantiophyta; Moss.
The Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba National Park (NRPNP) is a conservation unit created with objective of preserving the sources of the Parnaíba River and the Cerrado. Despite the variety of environments in the NRPNP, only six species of angiosperms have been recorded, while bryophytes, ferns and lycophytes remain totally unknown. Thus, the objective of this work is to study the richness, composition and communities of bryophytes in the NRPNP. The specimens will be collected in two excursions between April and December 2022. Three forests associated with watercourses (gallery forests) will be studied to analyze the bryophyte communities in these NRPNP environments. In three different areas and in each area of forest associated with watercourses 15 plots of 10 m x 10 m will be plotted, totaling 45 plots. For the other areas of the park, the bryothyte specimens will be collected through free walks. So far, 49 species of liverworts and mosses have been identified, distributed in 33 genera and 20 families. Fifty six published studies were compiled for the Brazilian Cerrado, with 695 bryophyte species recorded for this domain. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to contribute to the floristic and ecological knowledge of bryophytes occurring in the NRPNP and in the Brazilian Cerrado.
