SUMMARY:

Turneraceae includes 14 genera and 232 species, distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of America and Africa. In Brazil, Turneraceae is represented by the genera Oxossia L.Rocha., Piriqueta Aubl. and Turnera L., totaling 164 species, of which 116 are endemic to the country. In Maranhão, although several floristic studies have been published in recent years, taxonomic treatments focused on specific families are still scarce. Therefore, in order to contribute to the knowledge of the flora of Maranhão, we will carry out a taxonomic survey of the species of Turneraceae from Maranhão and indicate the conservation status of the recorded species, in addition, descriptions, identification keys, illustrations, maps and updated comments on the geographic distribution of species will be provided. The specimens from field expeditions and national and international herbarium collections whose collections are available online will be analyzed. The geographic distribution of the species will be in accordance with data from field expeditions and information on label exsiccates, which will later be plotted in maps. The same distribution data will be used to indicate conservation status as per IUCN criteria. As a result of this study, the knowledge about the taxonomy, geographic distribution and ecological aspects of Turneraceae in Maranhão will be expanded, with the possibility of new records or new threatened species. Thus subsidizing sustainable management and conservation policies for Brazilian biodiversity. In this dissertation project, preliminary results are presented about the field expeditions already carried out, as well as the species already sampled during field works.
