Ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants used in Mebêngôkre-Kayapó indigenous communities to face COVID-19 – Pará, Brazil

In this research project, the topic of ethnobotany was addressed, involving medicinal plants used in the fight against Covid-19, within the Kriny and Gorotire villages of the Mebêngôkre-Kayapó people located in the south of Pará. fighting Covid-19, cataloging important species for the conservation of local biodiversity and analyzing plants that work to strengthen the immune system or possible therapeutic practices, such as the use of home remedies for the symptoms of this disease. The methods developed for data collection were participatory using interviews, workshops and semi-structured and structured forms. Despite the pandemic scenario, it was possible to carry out a field activity in the city of Redenção with the indigenous people of Kriny, which made it possible to register 26 medicinal plants mentioned in the fight against Covid-19; it was possible to collect five species, which were identified and deposited in the Herbarium MG of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. The continuation of the research will also involve the indigenous people of the village of Gorotire.
