SUMMARY:

Ethnobotanical studies allow the assessment of different customs and traditions transmitted over generations about vegetables, generating great benefits for the community in general, such as preserving the memory related to plants. This research aims to understand the conservation of miriti through practices associated with the tradition of handicraft, income generation and biocultural identity in Abaetetuba, PA. For the ethical procedures and authorization of the study with the artisans, the signing of the Informed Consent Term (TCLE) and subsequent submission to Plataforma Brasil will be requested. Participants will be selected by the snowball method and semi-structured interviews will be applied. In addition, there will be visits to the species' naturally occurring environments to collect botanical and ecological data. Experiences will be held in the studios for the production of Miriti pieces and in spaces where there are religious manifestations that include some object/product of Miriti. The collected data will be tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet for subsequent Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Botanical samples will be collected for morphological descriptions and herborization. The morphological description of the organs of M. flexuosa will be correlated with their respective ethnobotanical uses (obtained in the field) and based on specialized literature. This work will show how usage traditions, lifestyle dependencies, regional identities and the ways in which non-timber forest resources are extracted directly or indirectly influence the conservation of the miritize tree.
