SUMMARY:

Family labor is the "flagship" in the agricultural activities of various types of farmers in the state of Pará. The degradation of the soil due to its inadequate use and management makes it unproductive, with irreversible losses and serious damage to the environment and to local populations that depend directly on the production of these lands. Important attributes contained in a soil can reveal whether it has ideal physical-water properties. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of natural regeneration on the behavior of the physical and water attributes of the soil in areas of crop-forest biosequence in the metropolitan region of Belém/PA. One hundred deformed samples and 100 undisturbed samples were collected in the layers of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm from five distinct areas: under mature forest (20 years) used as reference, three areas of secondary composite forests by natural regeneration at different ages (2, 5 and 10 years) and cassava cultivation area (0 years), located in the Abril Vermelho Settlement, municipality of Santa Bárbara do Pará. of tension and Richards chamber and adjustments by the Van Genuchten equation, obtaining the coefficients θs, θr, α, m and n. The variables total porosity, soil density (Ds), granulometry, infiltration, soil organic matter (MOS) and particle density (Dp) were also measured. In this way, it is expected to observe higher organic matter content and better physical quality in relation to total porosity and water content available in the soil in areas with longer natural regeneration time, when compared to the cultivated area and the one with less
regeneration time. Thus, it is expected to prove the influence of the natural regeneration time for the recovery of the physical and water attributes of the soil in this environment, contributing to improve the management and conservation of the area, optimizing agricultural production.
