SUMMARY:

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao), a species native to the Amazon, has been a growing source of socioeconomic benefits for the region. The cocoa production chain branches out from the adoption of these two distinct production systems (Agroforestry System and full sun), reflecting an uneven spatiotemporal evolution in the main technological trajectories of cocoa production in the region. The pressure to increase production and productivity, often driven by market demand and the need to generate income, has led farmers to opt for full sun cultivation to the detriment of agroforestry systems, mainly due to the possibility of expanding cocoa farming to non-traditional cultivation areas. Thus, the research question is to understand what the perception of cocoa farmers and local actors involved in the cocoa production chain is regarding the transition from the traditional system of cocoa cultivation to a full-sun system? And what are the socioeconomic and environmental effects of this conversion? The objective of the research is to analyze the socioeconomic and environmental factors of the conversion of cocoa plantations in agroforestry systems to full-sun monocultures in the municipalities of Uruará, Medicilândia, Brasil Novo and Altamira, members of the Transamazônica cocoa hub. Qualitative and quantitative research was adopted through a sample of 227 cocoa producers in the municipalities of Uruará, Medicilândia, Brasil Novo and Altamira, located in the Transamazônica territory, southwest of the State of Pará, through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire to collect the variables related to the questions formulated and submit them to a statistical test using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). The methodology used will be through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire, with a script that will outline the questions to be asked to the interviewees. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the cocoa production chain and understand the potential socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the conversion of cocoa crops and build an indicator of sociobioeconomic sustainability for the cocoa production chain.
