SUMMARY:

The gap between sustainable production of cocoa beans in the Amazon and the demands of national and international consumers for quality products. Certification and traceability of products from agroforestry systems can add economic, social and environmental value to cocoa products and make companies more competitive. With this, the cocoa hub of the Transamazonian can incorporate the bioeconomic value of the Amazon rainforest preservation association and make the activity a dynamic path for the local economy. In this way, it is possible to address the problem of low level of knowledge of producers, limited access to new technologies and credit to adopt certified sustainable good practices and improve the quality of life of families. Therefore, the research question is to know how certification can increase competitiveness and, in turn, market share and what is the impact on income and labor productivity? The objective of the research was to identify and analyze the ways in which certifications can contribute to adding value in all links of the cocoa production chain in Transamazônica, especially highlighting the socio-environmental and economic impacts on certified farms. For this study, qualitative and exploratory research will be adopted to analyze the benefits of adopting certification on 25 farms representative of the cocoa hub of Transamazônica. The methodology used will be the case study of certified farms, where a semi-structured questionnaire will be applied, with a script that will outline the questions to be asked to the interviewees. Multivariate data statistics will be applied to identify the latent dimensions associated with certification and the construction of systemic competitiveness indexes for the farms studied. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the sustainable cocoa production chain and to truly understand the impacts of certification and traceability on this important crop.
