SUMMARY:
The cultivation of coconut trees (Cocos nucifera L.) has assumed an important role in agriculture, being considered an important activity that generates employment and income in all Brazilian regions. The State of Pará stands out as the third largest national producer, however, there are still large gaps in the development of culture in the state, for example, the lack of a proper fertilization plan for the edaphoclimatic conditions of the state. The soils of Pará are highly weathered, mineralogy with clay of low activity and with low stock of nutrients, and as the coconut tree requires large amounts of nutrients in all phases of growth and development, the adequate nutritional supply of both macro and micronutrients is mandatory to obtain quality plants. Among the micronutrients considered essential for coconut cultivation are zinc and copper, both participate in numerous vital biological processes, such as photosynthesis and protection against oxidative stress, however, information related to fertilization practices with these micronutrients is practically non-existent for the crop, especially for coconut cultivated under the edaphoclimatic conditions of Pará. Thus, given the scarcity of information related to the nutritional requirement of zinc and copper for coconut trees grown in Pará, and based on the understanding that ideal doses of these micronutrients are capable of increasing the production of better quality and more productive seedlings, there is an urgent need to detailed studies on the influence of supply and adequate doses of these micronutrients on the growth, nutritional, physiological and biochemical status of green dwarf coconut palm seedlings from Brazil cultivated in the state of Pará.
