SUMMARY:

The municipality of Canaã dos Carajás, located in Southeast Pará, has a mineral-based economy and has shown intense population growth in the last two decades. This growth pattern has increased the demand for food, a context that may represent opportunities for local agriculture. The objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the dynamics of agricultural production and the opportunities for insertion in this growing market. The work will consist of two chapters. The first chapter, entitled Spatio-temporal dynamics of agricultural production in the municipality of Canaã dos Carajás, aims to evaluate the pattern of land use for agricultural purposes and identify the growth of the cultivated area, production and production of the main agricultural activities developed in the municipality. In the second chapter, entitled Market opportunities for agricultural products in Canaã dos Carajás, it is intended to identify opportunities for insertion in the market of products from local agriculture. The expectation is that these results can support strategies and public policies to promote rural development in Canaã dos Carajás.
