PAGES: 30
BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Agronomia
SUMMARY:

African bees (Apis mellifera scutellata) were introduced to Brazil in the 1950s and, by accident, crossed with other subspecies of European honey bees. This led to the emergence of hybrids known today as Africanized bees, which have rusticity characteristics and greater swarm capacity.  Apis mellifera is a species distributed worldwide and whose breeding technique is mastered, which allows large-scale production. The work of A. mellifera bees is recognized as of vital importance for food and human health for their products (honey, pollen, royal jelly, wax, propolis and apitoxin), and also for their pollination services that give rise to grains, fruits and green areas. The State of Pará, in general, shows potential for the development of beekeeping due to its characteristics and floral diversity. In this sense, this dissertation was divided into 3 chapters: the first chapter seeks, through the methodology of systematic literature review, to gather scientific productions on beekeeping in the last 20 years with the objective of illustrating how the theme has been addressed in research. The second chapter deals with the concentration and specialization of bee keeping activity in the state using the methodologies of localization gin (GL) indicator and the Normalized Concentration Index (CNI) that allowed to evaluate the degrees of importance of the activity in the municipalities of the state between the years 1996, 2006 and 2017. Finally, the third chapter used the database of the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) between 1990 and 2019, to estimate the demand and supply model, enabling the evaluation of the behaviors and effects of variables on beekeeping in the state of Pará.
