SUMMARY:

Water is an unlimited natural resource, endowed with economic value, proposed by the integrated management of

 water resources and in a situation of scarcity, the priority is the desedentation of animals, which proposes 

environmental legislation. In this context, the concern with the conservation of the quality of this resource has

 increased, as well as the search for improvements and incentives that would minimize the negative 

environmental impacts. Therefore, this work proposes to monitor the use of surface and underground 

water used in agricultural activity, as well as to apply the water quality index (IQA) for this purpose in a 

rural area in the municipality of Castanhal, Northeast of the State of Pará, made the verification of the 

condition of the water body according to the classes of use, highlighting the preponderant ones, 

in addition to the previous classification of the water body, according to current legislation. 

The water collections for analysis of physical-chemical parameters were from September / 2018 to August / 

2019, georeferenced, with on-site determination of qualitative parameters, as well as preserved samples and 

forwarded for analysis in the laboratory of the Evandro Chagas Institute. Finally, the individual assessment of

 the values obtained was compared with the guidelines based on CONAMA resolution nº 357/2005.
